Join the celebration of some major FOI milestones

On 13 December 2024 we'll be helping the Campaign for FOI in Scotland to celebrate some major milestones in Scottish FOI - at a Glasgow event to mark both the 20th anniversary of FOI rights being introduced in Scotland and the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Campaign for FOI in Scotland itself.

The event will see a wide range of speakers reflect on both the impact of FOI and in Scotland and the future of this vitally important public right. Speakers will include:

  • Lord Jim Wallace of Tankerness - former Deputy First Minister and the architect of Scotland's FOI law, on the passing of the legislation
  • Scottish Information Commissioner David Hamilton - on his role enforcing FOI rights
  • David Goldberg - the Campaign for FOI in Scotland Chair on the long path to ensuring FOI rights
  • Helena  Jäderblom - Chair of the Council of Europe's Access Info Group sharing an international perspective on the development of FOI
  • Katy Clark MSP - on her work to deliver an FOI Reform Bill in the Scottish Parliament
  • Carole Ewart - Director of the Campaign for FOI in Scotland on the future of FOI

The event will also feature representatives of civil society, the media, public authorities and the public reflecting on the impact that FOI has had for them, and will be chaired by Rosalind McInnes, BBC Scotland's Legal Director.

It will take place between 10am and 3pm on Friday 13 December at The Trades Hall in Glasgow. There is a small fee to attend to cover the Campaign for FOI in Scotland's costs, with tickets costing £30 for organisations and £15 for members of the public. A small number of free tickets are reserved for civil society organisations which are run by volunteers.
